Description

This original hand turned segmented bowl is made with Birdseye Maple, Walnut and Sapele. A beautiful decorative piece as a gift or for yourself to appreciate every day.

The feature wall is made with the Birdseye Maple, which is a unique type of Maple. It has a Walnut rim and the lower section is Walnut with intricate wedges of Maple. There are 72 handmade segments and 4 rings. Each ring requires meticulous calculations and planning to ensure a good circle with the correct diameter. All pieces are carefully assembled on the lathe and turned to its final shape.

Turning bowls on the lathe produces a real feel of Aiki (blending or harmonizing with "Ki" - that universal life energy). More so than most of the other items I turn on a lathe.
